My home desktop machine runs Windows Vista, and I want to access it using LogMeIn(Remote Desktop) from other locations. I want to be able to leave the computer off when I do not need to remotely access it, to save on energy.
I have heard of features such as wake-on-lan, but am unsure if this is a requirement of my motherboard, wireless router, and/or a software requirement. My motherboard is: Intel DG33TL.
What can I do to keep from leaving my machine on 24/7 incase I want to remote in? Witricity: a witric one!
I'm sick and tired of my housemate being EXCESSIVELY going on about saving energy and all. I'm paying her quite big money every month but she wont even allow me to leave MY wireless router ON when I told her it's supposed to be left on all the time as she said IT MIGHT get caught on fire blah blah. She pulls every plug in the electrical sockets even when I'm charging my phone. I've tried to speak to her properly about the wireless router issue but she said "I DONT BELIEVE THAT YOU"RE SUPPOSED TO LEAVE A ROUTER ON ALL THE TIME!!!!!!". She's 48 and she's my colleague at work. Ugh
NOTE:
Just a survey as my housemate turns off our wireless router when when we're not home or when no one is using it to save electricity she said.
That;s the thing though, I told her before I've never met anyone who'd turn off their router when they're home. So I always have to open it and then go down again to close it and then open it etc.
She's on her 40s. Witricity powered: go witric!
I plan to use a wireless router if and when we do order the high speed internet through AT&T.... should I get the router before I order the internet (if I do) or take the one AT&T offers which is gateway? how much electricity does a router use to run all day? and what brand would you suggest me get for cheap? (not cheap-cheap but hopefully less than $50 if possible...)
if we do get the internest it will either be the basic or Express if you need that info...
and also, would it be safe to buy a router through ebay?
it's DSL... not cable Witricity: a witric one!
My wireless router isn't connecting with my laptop. It's not an electricity, computer, proximity or anything problem. I don't know what the problem is. My computer's working fine but it doesn't pick up my functional router which is working fine, but maybe there are IP address or firewall considerations. This is frustrating.
However, I've been meaning to get a new, different, upgraded router in any case.
Will I still experience the same connection failure problems if I get and install a whole new router?
Please help! Thank you. Witricity: a witric one!
can it hurt any of these appliances when u turn the strip on? My bf seems to think that surge of power is not good for the tv/computer. I asked him, "Isn't that what a surge protector is for?" (so things don't get damaged if the power goes out...and then a surge of power goes thru when the power is turned back on) please help!! I think the strip should be turned off at night....he does not! How much electricity does it save? Also does it hurt for the wireless router to stay on continuously & doesn't that waste electricity? How can i use my laptop outside, say in the garden without trailing wires and internet connection all over the place. I see people take theirs on trains even buses, and sit happily tapping away, and can't figure out how you get an internet connection without the wireless router and being plugged in to the electricity supply. My battery doesn't last longer than 1 1/2 hours so even watching a movie doesn't work.
This has been driving me mad for weeks. For some reason, at 12:30am, every day, and without fail, the router loses its signal, and it doesn't reconnect unless I switch it off for at least half an hour.
I know what causes it, but I have no idea why. Our electricity meter switches from daytime power to nighttime power at 12:30am, and it's when that switch clicks over, the router goes mad.
It's out of range of the wireless router in the house. I've got electricity out there but no phone line.
Well, running a physical cable is out of the question. Maybe the powerline thing will work -- know of a good product?
As to why, I am thinking of wi-fi radio and a webcam. Witricity powered: witric power.
