My Dad claims that he saw something on tv today that said a wireless router and a cable modem if left plugged in for 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, accounts for up to 10-25% of your monthly HOUSEHOLD power consumption. I feel this is total bull, the LED lights just mess with his OCD (he's a nut when it comes to electricity use). My question is, is there anything I can show him to prove him otherwise? Does anybody know how much power these things actually use?
My router is - Netgear 54MBS Wireless model WGR614 v7
My modem is - Arris CM450A

He's about 3 years old so he's pretty young. He's usually pretty active. Yesterday I noticed he was sleeping on he bottom of the cage, with his head tucked under his wing. This morning he was doing the same thing so I separated him from his buddy and put him in a different cage. I tried giving him some diluted energy drink but he just let it dribble down his chest. So I mixed up some Kaytee Exact Baby Bird formula and made it really watery and gave that to him through a dropper. I thought it was just dribbling down his chest too but I felt that his crop was full so I stopped.

I use a Dell Studio 1737 and I like to play GFWL games like Halo 2 PC, GTA IV PC, etc. I play offline and its as if I'm playing on an Xbox 360 with the controller. So I go online to get some more achievements, and it lags really bad. On GTA IV, players cars fly everywhere. On Halo 2, I kill someone with the energy sword, and after 5 seconds in the game, the other player dies from me. My friends are getting really pissed at me and threatened to give me negative rep because of it. I only have 2 computers on the network, sometimes a Nintendo Wii, and sometimes a Nintendo DS on the network.
If I unplug my wireless router when not in use, the next time I use it, I'd always have to reset it. I've done that before. Is this OK? I'm afraid I might ruin the signal or the equipment or something like that. I'm worried that it gets hot and that there is electricity consumption while it is always plugged. But I don't want to change settings or have to re-set all the time. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks. Witricity powered: a witric one!
