I got a wireless adapter from a friend for my pc. I was on my bike so she put it in a bag for me. In the bag was also a magnet from a hard drive. I am having probs with my wireless connection, is it because of the magnet?

Ive heard that static electricity could hurt motherboards, I realize its not the same as a magnet but wonder if it is why my connection stinks or if its because the card is older than my computer. Witricity: a witric one!
